GeoHarvest 1.0 (bèta) Configuration Tutorial - Page 3 of 4
Downloading Tracks
The Track Download tab should be configured as shown below with 'Download Track file automatically' unchecked.

The sole purpose of this whole tab is to copy one file, the Track file of your GPS, to the 'TrackInput' folder, a very easy task. This folder lives next to the 'Database1' folder we saw on the previous page. Hit 'Download Track Now', browse to your GPS file and click OK. The file should arrive in the 'TrackInput' folder, like I show here for a Garmin Oregon .gpx file:

You can manually copy files to this folder, but the track files will be deleted later. Therefore you should better let the program handle it, as it always works with a copy. The track file should be in a format that GeoHarvest can read. Choose the Input Type accordingly:
- Garmin GPX, as is found in the file 'Current.gpx' on a Garmin Oregon GPS
- NMEA 0183 sentences
- GPSBabel GPX XML as is created by GPSBabel when it converts from other formats

'GPSBabel GPX XML' will give best chance on compatibility with non-Garmin .gpx files. If you cannot successfully end this tutorial with a .gpx file from your *recent and popular* USB GPS, please send me a mail with the .gpx file attached. I'll try to make it work as I want GeoHarvest to be compatible with the most popular versions of .gpx files.
To use the automatic GPSBabel conversion, simply check 'Convert with GPSBabel from:' and choose the right type of Track file. GeoHarvest uses the command:
gpsbabel.exe -t -i InputFileType -f TrackFileName -o gpx -F ...\TrackInput\temp.gpx
When GeoTagging starts this command converts your Track file into the file 'temp.gpx', that will only exist for a eyewink because it will be used immediately to create .ght files as is shown later in this tutorial.
For any information about the actual workings of GPSBabel please refer to the GPSBabel site
Once the Input Type is set and a compatible file is put in the 'TrackInput' folder the program is ready to perform the actual task, GeoTagging, as is discussed on the next page.
